I am an occasional smoker and I only smoke on weekends as well. I'd smoke a cigarette or two. You feel that way because that has been your routine for years and your system craves and have been used to that already. On weekends, I look forward to feel relaxed and relieved from the stress from work.

I recently have tried quitting smoking and I am exactly like you. I don't smoke during the week but on the weekends when I'm out with friends drinking, I need to smoke cigarettes. I think the main reason people get addicted to cigarettes is the environmental queues that cause people to want to smoke. You are used to smoking after say you finish a beer, or get in a car, or pass the 50 mile mark, etc. If any of your friends smoke, it will be difficult for you to not smoke when hanging around them. I would recommend when you go out to just not give yourself time to leave for a smoke. Keep talking to people/ keep yourself busy. Also simply don't buy a pack of cigarettes. It is a strange addiction because I don't physically need a cigarette but mentally if I don't have one, it is similar to the feeling of watching a movie all the way through until the ending and then stopping, you feel like nothing else is more important than seeing that ending.

you are a social smoker, at some point you picked up the habit of smoking and drinking. Your body is addicted to smokes, but you have great control over it. You body is used to nicotine spikes on the weekends being that you have been doing it for years, when drinking your inhibitions are lower giving you less control, then back to work on Monday and your routine starts over again. The feeling of cravings that you are exp. close to the weekends is nicotine withdrawals, you have deprived your body of the chemical it is addicted to and when you think about drinking your body is letting you know that you also have another addiction to feed.

I actually started smoking the same exact way, for years it was a weekend thing, which over time manifested into full time smoking. I say quit now while you are ahead, how to quit, you got me. you find out how to do it successfully let me know. I smoke every day now and hate it so much, but my body will not let me quit cold turkey anymore without serious withdrawal

I've never heard of a binge CIGARETTE smoker, unless you're talking about smoking something else.

In that case, it's just like binge drinking. Look forward to the weekend, wanna party, and there's your cravings.
