Hypothetically, if someone underage was to buy alcohol with a fake id...?

It seems that the clerk couldn't get into trouble because he/she could argue they thought it was real. If the clerk rejects it, he/she would just confiscate it and tell you to scram. Seems like not much could go wrong except losing the fake ID. Whats the worst that could happen?

Well, if you're in America, (also depending on how strict the laws in that particular state are) then you could potentially get in a lot of trouble. But, only if you are ALTERING a real driver's license or a passport. But, if it is just a fake ID card that says your 21 or whatever the required age is for what you are buying then I don't think you could get in that much trouble. Never say "what's the worst that could happen?" - that is asking for bad karma ;).



Yes, the clerk will probably reject it is it looks fake but, if it is well done then you should be fine. The worst that could happen is they could call the police and bring you home and maybe fine you but, I doubt it.



I live in Ireland and the laws aren't as strict as in America. Kids drink from 12/13 upwards here (stupid, I know). And the drinking age is 18+

The worst that could happen is that store security holds you while the police come.



In many states, you can lose your driver's license, be thrown in jail, and have to pay a huge fine.



Should the clerk sell to you and the license is obviously fake, and he gets caught, he will be fired and could get a $1000 fine. The store that he worked for could be shut down for a period of time (or permanently) and be fined heavily.



At every bar I worked at, if you served someone with an obviously fake ID, you were fired. No tolerance at all.

Sorry, but the company would still fire him, because just because he doesn't believe it was fake, he should have known better or been suspect.



Excuses like that don't work in today's world.



As for what could go wrong, the police are generally called because it can be construed as a felony, violation of rights, or attempt to steal (it is considered theft by some law professionals).



Normally you also receive a type of probation at the end of the sentence, and generally a fine of some sort, perhaps some jail time depending on age.



It's serious, and it can cost you a lot, as well as the job and some times fines and black marks on the other person.

It's only considered a fake or novelty ID if information on the card is false, such as your age, name, address or if its a forgery of a national or state id. If you get or make an ID purely for the sake of proving your age with correct and truthful information, it isn't fake. Will the place take this second form of ID as a way to prove your age is up to whatever the business entails.

well i was a cashier who sold beer to a minor(was a police sting) i carded the kid.. looked at his birthdate.. did the math(i calculated wrong) and sold him the beer. at the end of my shift.. a cop came in and wrote me a summons to court. i lost my job the next morning. at court.. was fined $250 plus court costs. and ever since then.. i havent been able to find another cashier job. alot of **** went wrong because of a mistake like that.



would you want someone to lose their job just because you wanted alcohol? what if that cashier had 3 kids at home that she was supporting by herself? if she lost her job.. what would happen to her and those 3 kids? think about it.. is the alcohol really worth it?

well it is a felony to posess a fake id or any ID not belonging to you (older sibling's id) and that's just having it. if you were to obtain alcohol with it....your just digging yourself a deeper grave.....
