I have been told by a bartender friend that when someone orders a "Smithwicks" they do not serve them due to the wrong pronunciation....Usually another customer has to "clue them in" on the pronunciation before this beer is served!

It is pronounced "Smiddicks", at least in the bars in the Midwest.

I'm Irish and can teel you yes. The 'w' is silent. You would pronounce it "Smith-ick's" not "Smit-icks' as the non Irish person here has suggested.
