I have been a bartender for years, I wrote up step by step instructions on my blog for how to make a hot toddy.

Hope this helps!

It's not traditional, but it is in my family. My aunt swore by 2 oz. Kahlua in a large mug, filled up with hot coffee or cocoa and whipped cream on top. I used to make mine occasionally with Irish whisky, sort of like an Irish coffee.

tea, honey, lemon and whiskey.

I never measure any of the ingerdients so the only advice I can give on the quantities are

use less than a shot of whiskey. Probably no more than 1/2 shot.

I like to use light rum as it has fewer impurities than whiskey or dark rum.

Juice from one lemon, 2oz rum, 2 tablespoons honey, 6-8 oz hot water.
