If it's dark you want, there is none better than Peet's out of the San Francisco area (but now available in certain parts around the country or via the web).

The late Alfred Peet started his company in the 1970's and actually served as consultant with the original version of Starbucks in the 70's and helped them get started and showed them how to roast.

Peet's coffee, however is a lot darker and stronger than Starbucks, and I think at this point, the quality control with Peets is better than with SB as they don't have such a gigantic empire and can better oversee things.

Kona Coffee from Hawaii, as Blue Mountain from Jamaica...warning Blue Mountain is very strong and expensive. Dunkin Donuts makes a great coffee as well. Personally we drink Folgers on normal mornings and Kona on the weekends. The purer the Kona the more expensive the coffee.

I've become fond of Papa Nicolis. Not expensive, but good.

If you love coffee... due yourself a favor and invest in a French Press. There is no better way to make coffee.
