Okay -- the only wine I drink is Chardonnay, and I buy Robert Mondavi Private Selection, which is usually about $10.99, and it's really good!

Today at the grocery store I thought..."Why should I pay $10.99 for Robert Mondavi, which is only 750ML -- when I can get a FIVE LITER box for Franzia for $12.99? Is the boxed wine Chardonnay really that bad?

It's chilling in the fridge right now, but it can't be THAT bad, can it? I mean, I've had some BAD wine...so this must at least be adequate?

P.S. I can only drink white wine because red wine gives me the MOTHER OF ALL HEADACHES.

I have the Franzia in the fridge as I write this and use it to serve those that like chardonnay. It has been a unanimous success. Sometimes you can find it at Sams Club for under ten dollars. Also, Trader Joe's sells Charles Shaw for $1.99 (called two buck chuck), in bottles, that tastes about the same as the Franzia.

As far as I know, boxed wine is ok--it's basically bulk wine. You're not getting the really good stuff, of course. But with boxed wine you're probably saving quite a bit due to packaging--it's much cheaper to store and transport boxed wine than multiple glass bottles.

You know, I'd say it can't be *that* bad--buy a box and try it. If you don't care for it, drink decent bottled wine for your first glass or two, then go at the boxed stuff. It should taste fine at that point, and that way it won't go to waste.
